Masoor Dal Recipe.
Ingredients:
1 cup Masoor Dal (red lentils)
2 cups water
1/2 tsp turmeric
Salt to taste
2 tbsp ghee or oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 small onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 inch ginger, grated
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1 tomato, chopped
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp chopped cilantro
Instructions:
Rinse the Masoor Dal in cold water until the water runs clear.
In a large pot, combine the Masoor Dal, water, turmeric, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the lentils are soft and fully cooked.
In a separate pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium-high heat.
Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to splutter.
Add the chopped onions and cook until they become translucent.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for another minute.
Add the red chili powder and chopped tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes are soft and pulpy.
Add the cooked Masoor Dal to the pan with the onion-tomato mixture and stir to combine.
Add garam masala and cilantro, and mix well.
Serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread.
