Chicken Biryani Recipe
Ingredients:
1.5 lbs boneless chicken
2 cups basmati rice
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, minced
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
1/2 cup mint leaves, chopped
1/2 cup fried onions
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup ghee or oil
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
3 green cardamom pods
3 cloves,
Instructions:
Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak in warm water for 30 minutes.
In a large pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until the onions are golden brown.
Add the chicken, tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, coriander, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Cook until the chicken is browned on all sides.
Stir in the yogurt and cook until the liquid has evaporated.
Stir in the cilantro, mint leaves, fried onions, and lemon juice.
Drain the rice and add to the pan with the chicken mixture. Stir to combine.
Add the chicken broth, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
Serve hot with raita or chutney. Enjoy!
