Daal Makhani recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup whole black lentils (urad dal)

1/4 cup kidney beans (rajma)

4 cups water

3 tbsp butter

1 onion, finely chopped

1 tbsp ginger paste

1 tbsp garlic paste

2 tomatoes, pureed

1 tsp cumin powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp red chili powder

1 tsp garam masala powder

1/2 cup fresh cream

Salt to taste

Instructions:

Rinse the lentils and kidney beans in cold water and soak them in 4 cups of water for at least 6 hours or overnight.

Drain the water and transfer the lentils and kidney beans to a pressure cooker with 4 cups of fresh water. Cook for 10-12 whistles or until they are soft and fully cooked.

In a separate pan, melt the butter and add chopped onions. Fry until the onions are soft and translucent.

Add ginger and garlic paste to the pan and fry for a few seconds until the raw smell disappears.

Add tomato puree to the pan and cook for 5 minutes or until the oil separates from the mixture.

Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder to the pan and mix well.

Add the cooked lentils and kidney beans to the pan and mix well. Add salt to taste and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes on low heat.

Add fresh cream to the pan and mix well. Let it cook for another 5-10 minutes.

Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice. Enjoy!
